Introduction

Byte Binding ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Site and the Service. It works alongside our Terms & Conditions. Please read this Privacy Policy carefully.

Data we do not collect

We do not read or collect the data you provide while using the Service on your computer such as the contents of your books, your digital assets, or the exported files. Such data is processed entirely on-device and is never shared with us or any third-parties.

When submitting a crash report or a feedback form, we may ask you to share some of the aforementioned personal data with the sole purpose of helping us identify and fix the issue. If you agree to share your information, it will be transferred to the support staff and retain only for the duration needed to resolve the issue, then deleted.

Data we collect

Account & sign-in

We do not offer password-based accounts. You create your account and sign in exclusively through third-party providers, like Google or Amazon. When you sign in, your provider shares your basic profile with us, and we store:

We do not receive or store your provider password. The data shared by your sign-in provider is governed by that provider's own privacy policy.

Sessions & security

To keep your session secure and to protect against abuse, we store IP address and browser user-agent associated with each active session, and we read your IP address to rate-limit requests (for example, on the waitlist form). IP addresses are provided to us by our hosting provider, Cloudflare.

Payments & licenses

Payments are processed entirely by our payment provider, Polar. When you make a purchase, we share your email address with Polar to provision your checkout. We never read or store the payment information you provide to Polar during the checkout process. After a successful purchase, we store a license record linked to your account (a license key and associated cryptographic signature). The data you share with Polar is governed by their own Privacy Policy.

If present, your license record is retained even after account deletion to prevent you from losing access to your purchase.

Cookies

We collect strictly essential, first-party cookies to enable the Site functionality, such as:

We do not use advertising, analytics, or cross-site tracking cookies.

Error monitoring

To detect, diagnose, and fix errors on the Site and in the Service, we use Sentry, a third-party error monitoring and performance service. When an error occurs, or as part of a small sample of requests, we send diagnostic data to Sentry, such as the error message and stack trace, the page or screen where the error occurred, browser or application user-agent, and timing of the operation. We configure Sentry to not attach your identity to this data (no user identifiers, email, or IP address are sent by us). This data is processed in Sentry's European Union region. The data shared with Sentry is governed by their own Privacy Policy.

Waitlist

We store the email address you provide upon your explicit request to join the waitlist for the purposes of notifying you about product availability and updates. No other information is collected by the waitlist. You can opt-out from receiving aforementioned correspondence via the unsubscribe link in the received emails or by contacting us at support@bytebinding.com.

How we store your data

Your data is stored in a Cloudflare-managed database running on Cloudflare's global infrastructure. Some processing may therefore occur in data centers outside your country.

Data retention

We retain the personal information we receive as described in this Privacy Policy for as long as you use the Site or as necessary to fulfill the purpose(s) for which it was collected, provide our products and servies, resolve desputes, establish legal defenses, conduct audits, pursue legitimate business purposes, enforce our agreements, and comply with applicable laws.

We retain license records for as long as needed to provide and validate your purchase and to meet our legal and accounting obligations—including after account deletion.

Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. We use trusted third-party services to operate Byte Binding:

These services only receive the minimum data necessary to perform their function.

Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's privacy

Byte Binding is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
